The High One is Odin, leader of the Norse gods. He has many names, as you will learn in our course. These four lines of ancient poetry ask eight questions about the runes that we hope you will be able to answer by the end of the 9-month immersive course. Odin is a sacred and divine figure, from whom there is a lot to learn, and we will also meet other significant figures such as Frigga, Freya, Thor, Sunna, and Heimdall, along with their animal spirit guides, many of whom are horses, and important tools.

What are the Norse Runes?
The Elder Futhark is an ancient alphabet used by the Old Norse and Viking Age people that emerged around the 1st Century. There are 24 letters with a literal meaning and also a more lengthy symbolic representation that mirrors the typical hero's journey or mythic quest for wholeness and soulful life experience.
What is a Shamanic Journey?
A shamanic journey is a specific healing modality in which a shaman enters into a trancelike state via drumming or other rhythmic musical track. In this altered state, he or she observes and interacts with 'soul parts' that have been lost or stuck due to traumatic events in a person's life. Journeys, also called Soul Retrievals, are very effective at restoring vitality, life force and helping a person move through processes of grief, anger or other turmoil. Combining runes with journeying adds a new dimension and a powerful catalyst for positive change.
Prerequisite?
You do not need to have prior experience with shamanism or runes, though you will learn shamanic techniques, be introduced to your spirit guides, and learn about ancient wisdom traditions.

About Me
Why do I love teaching about the Norse runes?
I have many tools that I use as part of my shamanic practice and have found the runes to be one of the most powerful for creating change, gaining insight into the mythic journey, and for experiencing repeatable synchronicities and magical moments in everyday life. Over and over, students report having transcendent journeys, new knowledge of self, and awe-inspiring synchronicities. There is a passage from a Shakespeare play, The Tempest, in which Ariel, the magician’s spirit helper, describes the nature of a sea-change. This is one of my favourite poems because the imagery it invokes, pearls for eyes, coral for bones, transformation into something “rich and strange,” so perfectly fits that process of spiritual alchemy that is at the heart of the study of, and experience with, the Norse runes.
One past student asked me, "How did you get so geeked out on runes?" One day, I various soul maps, (mythic journeys, spiritual alchemy, the woman’s mythic journey as outlined from books) out on my table and a pattern stood out. I could see a cyclical path that sparks positive change and empowerment across the board and the Norse runes fit the pattern. The runes are letters, an oracle, but it’s in their hidden, mystic symbolism that you can tap into everyday magic to get insight into your life’s journey. For example, the rune wunjo, ᚹ means joy, peace, rest or reward after a struggle. It also can be painted, drawn, or sent in order to create peace. I enjoy giving students tools to support their own path towards inner peace, well-being, and a greater capacity to understand and practice compassion.
This class is unique because it offers structure, accountability to a shamanic teacher, and community in your classmates. I also teach the sacred geometry of the Norse runes that I have found to be very powerful. I’m passionate about this topic and that’s what I bring each week.

The runes are used for divination, creative manifestation, and insight into the mythological journey we all experience. A Course in Runes Description
Our online course will be held in seven, 5-week sessions, with two-week integration breaks in between each.
Each week in which new material is presented, there will be one live class call using the Zoom platform. The audio (only) will be recorded for later listening if you can’t be on the call.
Lesson material will be accessed via a password-protected area of my website.
Included: one rune reading + shamanic soul retrieval journey done by me via phone or Zoom. The work occurs in the shamanic realms, not bound by space and time, and so results are just as effective as if in person.
In the first weeks of the course, you will learn how to do a shamanic journey for yourself so that you can directly access the shamanic realms and bring back information. This is the method by which you will truly integrate the knowledge of the runes. This is accomplished by listening to drumming tracks or other transportive music to access a “trance-like” state.
With a trained shaman as your teacher, I bring you my knowledge of the Norse myths, ancient poems, and sagas which, when combined with the runes, gives you a powerful tool for empowerment. Mythology provides our maps and context for our current life experience.
It is my intention that students will have the opportunity to pair up throughout the course for partner work and practice. Varying time zones and class size may be limiting factors. We will do our best to accommodate, but appreciate your understanding in advance.
NOT included and required: A rune set and rune casting cloth. Please purchase your own set of Elder Futhark runes prior to the start of class. There are many wonderful sets available online, for example on the Etsy platform. The selection is a highly personal process. If you would like input, I'm glad to point you in the right direction.
Please NOTE: Successful completion of the course is dependent on what you put into it. Each week, you will have a lesson to read and the invitation to journey, meditate, or journal on the rune of that week. Journeys take about 20-30 minutes, reading time is very individual. I will ask that you share your work for my review and to benefit others. The goal is to learn the runes in such a way that they become part of you, as an oracle, as a focal point for positive change, and empowering tool for your life and its direction. We will discuss myths, pagan gods and goddesses, and the mystical traditions of the Old Norse in an inclusive environment of curiosity, non-judgement, and fellowship.
